12 Years of Graffiti Writing – Ozkar Gorgias

A clever way to show commitment to an art form, Ozkar Gorgias, a european artist and photographer displays the sneakers worn throughout his years pursuing illegal art in his collection of work, ’12 years graffiti writing.’ The result, an incredible display of repetition and randomness of color and style that’s an interesting parallel to graffiti itself. Sartorialist Explains his Visual Life

Scott Schumann, better known as street fashion photographer & blogger, The Sartorialist, takes Intel on a walking tour of his (much desired) typical day in NYC. Its an inspirational look how Schumann stumbled into what he does today; snapping photos of the fashionably elite. It also shows how anyone who pursues their passion can go from obscurity to notoriety by simply doing the thing they love, working at it, and using the tools they have at their disposal.

This beautifully shot video shows an honest, straightforward, and accessible look at Schumanns work. It’s part of Intel’s Visual Life campaign and a fantastic example of branded content. As Intel puts it, ‘The people you know, the places you visit, the things that inspire you… together, these represent your unique Visual Life, and we want to celebrate it!’

Streets of NY

Just back from a recent business trip to New York and New Jersey. I’m certainly not the first to say, there’s something truly inspiring about NYC; its energy, pace, scale, and internationality.

This is a snapshot i took at 59th and 5th and it just has this kind of vintage feel to it, like NYC is such a timeless city, it could be 1980 or it could be 2010.

I like the synchronized stride of the two men crossing the street and the vanishing point of 59th Street, giving the impression the road leads to the edge of the world.

Balloon Flight for Cancer Fight

Just came across this Cancer Council of Australia campaign; Truth or Dare, Sydney from 2009. To raise awareness for Prostate Cancer, the Daredallion challenge asked Australians to “dare someone to do something they normally wouldn’t do — or challenge yourself to something completely outrageous.

The goal: raise money for creating awareness for men’s cancers.” One of the first dares was captured on film by Eugene Tan. This fella attempted an unsuccessful helium balloon flight from Bondi beach. The dare was clearly a failure, but the results are pretty beautiful!

Leica M9 Titanium. Um, Yes Please.

Leica’s calling the M9 “Titanium” an exclusive special edition; the result of a collaboration with Walter de’Silva, an influential automobile designer currently in charge of the SEAT, Audi and Lamborghini labels. He also has his stamp on the latest models from Volkswagen. This collaboration clearly presents an undeniably beautiful and unquestionably expressive Leica model that screams performance, quality, and precision engineering.

Freefall Skydive / Rocket Launch / Shuttle

A Delta II rises above the clouds as Staff Sgt. Eric Thompson freefalls over Lompoc June 7. The instructor with the 532nd Training Squadron planned his skydive to coincide with the launch carrying the Italian Thales Alenia-Space COSMO-SkyMed Satellite, states the Vandenburg AFP photo gallery. Vancouver Autumn Means Thoughts of Tropical Places.

As Autumn descends on Vancouver, the rain rolls in, making this already green city all the more green, wet, and cold. While there’s a certain comfort in the environmental vitality that a constant coat of rain on a vividly green patch of land typically brings, it’s the Autumn weather that gets many Vancouverites thinking about a trip someplace hot, with beaches, and expansive views of bright blue skies, sounds of crashing waves and sea-dwelling birds, and the relaxation that only the tropics can provide.

While the east and south coasts have the Caribbean, the Pacific North West has Hawaii and Mexico – both about a 5 hour flight from YVR. The former brings a vintage surf culture and American comforts like Nobu and Louis Vuitton (if that’s your thing); the latter brings at least some level of culture, gated compounds, and federal security on every street corner and highway overpass.

Given the current state of things in Mexico, a tropical trip this year is more likely Hawaii. But nonetheless, I thought I’d post some of the snapshots from our Yucatán Peninsula trip last year. These photos were taken at La Amada, north of Cancun, Hotel Secreto on Isla Mujeres, and in Playa Del Carmen. All spots i highly recommend.
