Hobo By Molo

Shout out to my pal @DaneBro over at Molo. The Vancouver design group has created the Hobo Lantern, “a portable luminary inspired by the urban nightlife of Zona Tortona during Design Week. Hobo comes to life with an energy-efficient LED light source glowing through its delicate pattern of translucent fibres.” Get it at molostore.com on April 12, 2011 – the first day of Design Week in Milan.

Poetic & Humorous Lighting from Sweden

A beautiful series of lamps by David Ericsson & Marcus Berg of Swedish design group DMOCH. The Francis Lamps as they describe the project imports ‘poetic and humorous values into lightings all from the very start in the process to the end of life of the objects.’ More images over at Contemporist.

Flag Halyard Chair c.1950

I came across the The Flag Halyard Chair recently in an Inform emailer, and I can definitely say this is one of my favourite pieces of furniture. Manufactured in Denmark by PP Mobler, Hans J. Wagner’s design is both beautiful and strange all at once. With a mix of steel tubing, leather, and longhaired sheepskin, it looks like it could be very difficult to get up from. And for about $11,000 retail, I’d get as much sitting time in with this chair as possible.

Paolo Cappello / Otto Table

The Otto Table by Italian designer Paolo Cappello for Miniforms is intriguingly beautiful and odd all at once. It’s balanced, yet illusional, while remaining visually solid as a table should.

As posted on The Contemporist, Paolo says: This table reinterpretates the way of using tables, no more square or circle surfaces. The organic shape of the tempered glass top creates an object that can be both used as dining table or office desk: a wide surface to work/design/dine or cook on. The improbable air of instability of the wooden axis-symmetric base combined with the organic top creates a table that nearly seems like a live creature to interact with.
