An incredible example of minimal architecture defined by available space, this 4m×4m home sits on a 34m2 lot in the centre of Tokyo. I can only wish that spaces like this were more ubiquitous this side of the Pacific.

Opportunity Grows From Motor City Ruins

I can’t say I thought I’d be motivated to visit Detroit anytime soon. But i came across this series of videos, Detroit Lives, from Palladium Boots, with Johnny Knoxville profiling a city on the rebound. There’s something compelling about a place so run down yet so full of opportunity for change. There’s a kind of accessibility not likely found elsewhere in the world; the result of a city that has come, and gone, and is now very very slowly coming back around again.

Prada Marfa, Valentine, Texas

I’m in awe of Prada Marfa, an amazing permanent installation by artists Elmgreen and Dragset, who refer to the work as a “pop architectural land art project.”

The structure was constructed in October, 2005 at a cost of $80k and is located just outside of Valentine, Texas, about 60 km from the city of Marfa, Texas. On the front of the structure is a single non-functioning door and two large windows displaying actual Prada shoes and handbags, picked out and provided by Miuccia Prada herself from the fall / winter 2005 collection.
